About Us

We need to teach our children the need to respect diversity and foster a culture of inclusiveness.

-- Henri Tiphagne, Executive Director, People’s Watch

Ganesa Perumal, a then 12-year-old student of Human Rights Education (HRE), in Bomminayakanpatti in Theni district in Tamil Nadu, an area notorious for female infanticide, interceded with conviction to save the life of a baby girl who otherwise would have been a mortality statistic.

Seventy-five children of migrant construction workers, in a village near Bengaluru in Karnataka, deprived of schooling, were enabled to avail their Right to Education, thanks to the intervention of a group of students of HRE, who took up their cause with the authorities concerned.

Human Rights through Education

Many sustained impacts are created by the Institute of Human Rights Education (IHRE), the nation wide programme for human rights through education. The programme has been conceptualized and implemented by People’s Watch, a programme unit of the Centre for Promotion of Social Concerns, based in Madurai, South India, along with its partners.
